Updates From the Board June 2012

The 2012-13 Board of Directors:  The Board is pleased to announce that in the June 20, 2012 meeting, the Board elected three new directors, as well as the officers for the 2012-13 school year.  We welcome the following new members, who begin their three-year terms:  Dennis King, Brett Buatti and Ashlee Titus. The following directors were elected to one-year officer terms:  

Sean Colgan, President

Jay Mearns, Vice President

Dennis King, Treasurer

Kristi Ross-Patchin, Secretary

Board training will occur in July, and we look forward to an exciting new year.  Many thanks as well to the directors whose board service has come to a close: Carol Davies, Carol Kaufman and Bob Munn.

Year In Review:  This was a busy year for the Board, and we would like to share a few highlights:   

Sound Practices:  The Board successfully operated under the comprehensive and detailed policies and procedures adopted last year in the Director's Notebook.  Minor revisions were made to more appropriately reflect current practices, and the new directors will be receiving their updated version prior to Board training in July.  The Director's Notebook received a Major Commendation from the CAIS Visiting Team, and it will continue to provide the institutional structure on which we will build long-term stability in leadership.

Accreditation:  The Board worked along with the adminsitration, faculty and community members in a lengthy and involved -- but highly successful -- CAIS/WASC accreditation process, which resulted in a three-year accreditation term for GHS. 

Head of School Search:  The Board successfully partnered with EDI and completed the nationwide search for our new Head of School.  Transition plans are diligently being carried out, and we look forward to the arrival of our new Head, Karen O'Donnell, in mid-July.  

Profound Thanks:  Finally, we would like the thank Jean Losey for her dedication and service to GHS over the last two years. She came to GHS at a difficult time in its evolution, and she leaves GHS a better and stronger institution.  Thanks largely to her efforts, GHS is poised to grow to the next level -- a mature independent school, modeled after CAIS best practies.  We wish Jean all the best in her future endeavors, and we hope to see her return to campus frequently, as the proud grandparent of two GHS students!
