Elementary Computers

January & February Month-At-A-Glance

First Grade
This month the first graders are working on learning how to gather and record information for their selected Artic Animal. Students will use the Internet to find facts and pictures to use for their Artic Animal report. The students will then take the information they gathered to create a finished written report using their keyboarding and word processing skills using Microsoft Word. Please come to Open House to see all their completed projects.

After the first graders complete their Artic Animal Reports we will be introducing students to using Raz-Kids Reading Comprehension website. Students will have the opportunity to read a variety of books and answer comprehension questions based on each story they read. This is a great website to encourage students to develop their reading comprehension skills. Students will also be able to use the website from home. Please look for information coming home about Raz Kids website soon.

Second Grade
This month the second graders just finished working on a variety of writing projects in the computer lab. Students used their keyboarding and word processing skills to create great looking poems and projects using Microsoft Word. Please continue to have your child practice their keyboarding skills at home.

The second graders will soon be working on learning how to gather and record information for their selected Dinosaur. Students will use the Internet to find facts and pictures to use for their Dinosaur projects. The students will then take the information to create a PowerPoint project about their dinosaurs. Please come to Open House to see all their completed projects.

Third Grade
This month the third graders are hard at work creating their final PowerPoint project about their selected animals. Students learned to research information, write down detailed facts, and plan out their research for their PowerPoint project. The students learned how to add text, pictures, and animate the pages in their PowerPoint project. Please come to Open House to see all their completed projects.


The third graders will soon be learning how to use Excel in the computer lab.  Students will learn how to enter data, format the data, and create graphs using Microsoft Excel.  We will also be working on variety of projects in Excel including a graphing project connected to their science unit on the Solar System.

Fourth Grade
The fourth grade students are learning how to use Excel in the computer lab. Students learn how to enter data, format the data, and create graphs using Microsoft Excel. The students will be working on a variety of Excel projects in the upcoming weeks.

We will take a mini-break from Excel and to start their PowerPoint project about their select Mission. The fourth graders are learning about the California Missions as part of their Social Studies unit. They will be creating a PowerPoint presentation that will display all the information they learned about their selected mission. Please come to Open House to see all their completed projects.

Fifth Grade
The fifth grade students just finished creating their PowerPoint presentations on their selected Explorers. Students learned how to plan, design, add text, pictures, and animate the information to create a PowerPoint presentation about their Explorer. Every student did a wonderful job on their report.

The fifth grade students just started learning how to use Excel in the computer lab. Students learn how to enter data, format the data, and create graphs using Microsoft Excel. The students will be working on a variety of Excel projects in the upcoming weeks. Please come to Open House to see all their completed projects.

Golden Hills School - Elementary Computer Goals

Golden Hills School Computer and Technology curriculum follows the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) created by the International Society for Technology in Education. Golden Hills School has also created an addendum to the national standards for each grade level.  

In order to teach our students internet safety, the curriculum also incorporates the CyberSmart curriculum that aligns with NETS for elementary and middle school students. This curriculum includes Safety and Security, Manners and Ethics, Advertising Awareness, Research, and Technology.
