Admissions Process

Admissions Process

Choosing a school for your child can be a rewarding and informative experience. The admissions process at GHS is designed to offer families ample opportunity to get to know the school, our programs, and the community; and to ensure a good fit between your family and the school. In turn, we look forward to getting to know you and we thank you for your candor during the process. Please ask any questions you may have and revisit the campus so that you can make an informed enrollment decision that will be right for your family.

The admissions process for Junior-Kindergarten and Kindergarten is slightly different than for students applying for entry for First to Eighth Grades. Please read the directions carefully.

Your Child's Visit to GHS

FOR JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN

Mid-year applicants for JK will generally be invited to visit the school for a half or a full day as appropriate. You should arrive at 8:00 a.m. and your child will be ready to be picked up at 11:00 a.m. for half day and 3:15 p.m. for full day.

Half day students need only bring a snack to school. Students visiting for the whole day should bring two snacks, a packed lunch (please keep your lunch nut-free), a change of clothes, and a small blanket for comfort during the rest time.

Following year applicants to JK will be assessed during a short visit to school on a day to be scheduled in the Spring.

Your Child's Visit to GHS

FIRST TO EIGHTH GRADES

Upon submission of all supplemental application documents, please contact the school to schedule your child's school visit. School visits are for the whole school day and your child should arrive to school at 8:00 a.m. with a lunch and a snack. Your child will visit with their current grade level group and he or she will be assigned a class "student buddy" to accompany them and assist them throughout the day. Your child may wish to wear clothes that match our school uniform in order to blend in. Khaki or navy pants or shorts and a red, navy or white polo shirt and/or sweatshirt.

During your child's visit, we will conduct an age-appropriate assessment of your child's language arts and math ability. No preparation is required.

Children visiting Kindergarten will be ready to be picked up at 2:45 p.m. Visitors to G1 to G5 can be picked up at 3:00 p.m. Students visiting G6 to G8 will be ready at 3:10 p.m.

Decision Notifications - All Grades

After all application materials are received and the school visit and assessment have taken place, the Admissions Committee will meet to determine acceptance. In most cases for mid-year applicants, parents can expect an admissions notification within 48 hours of your child's visit and file being completed. Notifications for following year applicants may take as long as two weeks to arrive.

Registration and Enrollment - All Grades

Along with the letter of acceptance, parents will receive an Enrollment Agreement. Parents generally have 1 to 2 weeks to review, initial and sign the Enrollment Agreement and to return it with the Enrollment Fee in order to complete the admissions process and to secure your child's enrollment at Golden Hills School.
