2010 - 2011 Wrestling Season Is Here!

Eligibility: GHS Students (Boys and Girls) in Grades K through 8th

Season: November 1, 2010 - end of February, 2011

Practice: 1st Practice is November 1st
Monday - Thursday 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in GHS Gym

Tournaments: League Tournaments begin in January 2011 on Thursdays.
League Finals are in mid February on a Saturday (Date TBA)
GHS will host an invitational tournament on a Saturday (Date TBA)

Cost: $75 - checks payable to "Golden Hills School Athletics"
Complete sign up form and athletic physical as well.

Uniform: Singlets will be distributed by the Coach prior to 1st match

Distinguished Trophy Honors GHS Wrestler

The Haroon G* Wrestling Trophy

In recognition of Golden Hills School's finest wrestler, a role model and inspiration for all, a new trophy was awarded at this year's 2010 Athletic Banquet to Haroon G. Wrestling for GHS from 2000 until his graduation in 2010, Haroon achieved the highest placing of any GHS wrestler to date, placing 3rd at Regionals.

For over a decade, Haroon not only received the respect of every coach in our sports league for his sportsmanship both on and off the mat, and but was recognized as one of the league's most gifted wrestlers.

Whether on campus or off, through his generosity, sense of humor and consideration of others, Haroon provided support for his teammates, always encouraging and guiding even the youngest of wrestlers.

This distinguished trophy honors the achievements of Haroon and recognizes his genuine and wholesome character. The Haroon G* Trophy will be awarded to only one wrestler each year who most emulates his qualities.

*Only a student's first name and first initial of last name are used on the website. The trophy's official name includes Haroon's last name.

Wrestlers Place at County Finals

GHS wrestlers participated in the El Dorado County Wrestling Finals this past Saturday at Rolling Hills Middle School in EDH. There were two divisions in the tournament JV and Varsity.

Wrestling well in the JV division and their places were:
Dahveed M. – 1st
Michael R. – 1st
Hasan G.– 2nd
Jace K. – 2nd
Kai K. – 4th

Wrestling and placing in the Varsity Division were:
Haroon G. – 1st
Kevan C. – 3rd
Mikhail M. – 3rd
Mitch J. – 5th

All four of the above varsity wrestlers have qualified for the Regional Wrestling Tournament to be held this coming Saturday at Elk Grove High School. Haroon G. has also qualified for the TOC (Tournament of Champions) Tournament March 13th at Del Oro High School.

Congrats to our fine wrestlers and team.

GHS Wrestling Tourney Draws Big Field

Almost tripling the number of registrants from last year, GHS hosted close to 150 wrestlers at the Hawk's Nest for the annual Golden Hills School Wrestling Tournament on January 23rd.

Under the direction of Athletic Director, Geoff Kauppenin, and coaches Dave Ridge and Ed Cryan, our own GHS wrestlers earned eight 1st place medals and four 2nd place medals, while achieving quite a number of pins.

The success of the tournament was due to the tireless volunteer efforts of GHS parents, students and teachers, and the tremendous support of families from the California Montessori Project whose wrestlers practice with our GHS team.

Congratulations to all GHS and CMP wrestlers and many thanks to ALL the volunteers!

Wrestlers Medal at Takedown Tournament

Wrestling season is under way. Six GHS wrestlers medaled at the recent Takedown Tournament in Rancho Cordova. All the kids did a great job.
