Extended Day FAQ

What is Golden Hills School Extended Day ?

Golden Hills School Extended Day  is an extension of a regular school day at Golden Hills School. Engaging activities, games and projects will be implemented daily involving art, cooking projects, computers, sports and more. A portion of the program is dedicated to homework or Study Hall where students can receive homework assistance in a focused atmosphere. A safe environment will be insured through well-supervised activities.

Will snack be provided for my child?

We encourage you to pack extra snacks for your child if he/she is coming to Extended Day which they can eat at any time after school.  We provide a snack at 4:30 p.m.

What if my child has a food allergy? Will they be able to eat the snacks that are provided?

It is important that you contact us if your child has a food allergy. We ask that you provide the snacks for your child. We will make accommodations so all children can participate in our cooking activities.

You have one hour scheduled for homework, what if my child finishes early or needs more time?

Miss Hurlburt or Miss Martinez will check your child’s homework and reading. If your child is finished, they may engage in a quiet activity. If they need more time, there is 30 minutes of free time before our Enrichment activity.  This time is used for finishing homework, eating snack, cleaning up, etc.

Is my child required to participate in the Enrichment activities?

Although we strongly encourage participation in our Enrichment activities, it is not required.

If the Extended Day Program is in another part of the school building, how will I know where I can pick up my child?

If we are in a location other than our “home” location (Computer Room), a message will be posted on the door of the middle school building, closest to the parking lot, letting you know where to find us.

What if I’m running late to pick up my child?

The latest pick up time is 6:00pm. You will be charged additionally if you are late to pick up your child. Please contact us if you are running late.

What if I arrange for someone else to pick up my child?

Please contact us if someone else is picking up your child.  We check identification when necessary.

I have special concerns regarding my child’s after school routine.  How can you accommodate these needs?

Please contact us if you have any concerns regarding your child’s after school routine.

There is an annual Extended Day registration fee of $25.00 which will only be charged to your account the first time parents use Extended Day. Parents are charged at the end of each month at the rate of $9.00/hour with the time present rounded to the next quarter hour. Many parents choose to inform the school that they will use Extended Day on a regular basis which is appreciated. However, Extended Day is also available on a drop-in basis and parents are encouraged to let the Front Office know by 12 noon at the latest if their child will stay for Extended Day. We also recognize that situations arise at the last minute where you will need to use Extended Day and possibly have another person pickup your child. For security purposes, please refer to pages 11- 12 of the GHS Parent and Student Handbook for important information regarding authorized pickup and communications.

In addition, please note the following information from the GHS Parent and Student Handbook:

“Any student who is not picked up within 15 minutes of their dismissal time is required to attend on-campus after school care (Extended Day) and parent(s) agree to pay established fees per the contract.

• Kindergarten students not picked up by 3:05 PM will be taken to Extended Day.
