GHS Middle School Students and Parents
The 2010-2011 school year is going to be a busy science year. There will be many improvements to the curriculum and especially to the GHS Science Fair and the California Great America Physics Day (8th grade only) processes.
The goal for this year's science program is to have more hands on labs that will enhance the reading and lecture materials. Using this goal students will heighten their understanding of scienctific process. By the middle of the school year students will be able to take concepts featured in class and create their own experiments to demonstrae the concept.
Science is an ever evolving subject and the preparation of our students for the future is one of the main goals of the science program. Creating passion for science and the scientific process is essential in any sucessful program. To create the passion and understanding of science we will be viewing all chapters at all grade levels from as many vantage points as time will allow.
Parents are encouraged to get involved in our science program. Join us in class, help with some of the projects, lecture on your expertise, or help me collect supplies for labs and projects. The interaction of the parents with the program creates a more enthusiastic student, so please contact me to see where you can help.
Seize the Day, and make your life extaordinary!

The science program for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at GHS will be seperated into Earth Science for 6th grade, Life Science for 7th grade, and Physical Science for 8th grade. The students will experience a vast variety of lab work and lecture in all of these disciplines. The format of the courses will also include the relationship of science to other learning areas such as history, literature, math, and writing.
Earth Science
The Earth Science coursework will concentrate on the three major disciplines: Geology, Meterology, and Enviromental Science. The school year will start with Geology. Here the students will learn about rocks and minerals as well as Earth's structure and how everything is related.
Life Science
Life science is broken down into the fields of molecular biology, genetics, physiology, and ecology. The students will be absorbed in the study of these fields during the year. Students will gain great insight into life from its smallest component inside of cells to the relationships between kingdoms. Physical Science
The 8th graders are studying physical science, which includes chemistry, mechanics, physics, astronomy, electricity.
The students will also be taking time to explore more physics through the preparation necessary for the California Great America Physics and Math Day in May. This program incorporates a deeper understanding into the rides at Great America. Students will be making roller coasters, trebuchets, mars landers to help them understand physics.
